1. All garbage and refuse must be in plastic bags before being placed in trash bin.
2. On the day of garbage collections, roll your bin to the street in front of your house, but
DO NOT PLACE IT IN THE STREET OR BLOCK THE SIDEWALK.
3. During the week between collections, store your trash bin where you normally store
your trash cans. Please do NOT leave next to street after your pickup day.
4. Always place the lid back on the bin when you deposit your trash to keep rain and
neighborhood pets out.
5. Our collection day begins at 8:00 a.m. and on Monday and Tuesday. Bins should be
placed at the street by 7:45 a.m. on collection days and removed by sunset on the same day. You may put bins out the afternoon before.
6. The bin is owned by the Town, but keeping it clean, routine upkeep and protecting it
from being stolen is the user's responsibility. Take care of it and don't abuse it, and it will
last a long time.
7. Damaged or abused bins are replaced at the property owner's or his responsible agent's
expense. Normal wear and tear do not count as abuse.
8. We do NOT pick up items such as Acids, Caustics, Explosives or other Dangerous
Materials, (i.e., concrete, wood, bricks, pieces of heavy metal, etc.), Do not start any fires in
the bin; doing so will destroy the bin.
9. The bin must NOT be used for any other purpose other than storing and collecting
garbage.
10. DO NOT mark, write, paint, cut, burn, or alter the bin in any way.
11. As needed, wash the bin out with soap and water to keep it clean and neat.
12. The Town maintains ownership of the bins at all times, so if you move notify the Public
Works Department at 694-2356 so we can pick up the bin and relieve you of any
responsibility for the bin.
13. If your bin is stolen or damaged, call the Public Works Department immediately at 694-2356.
14. The Town shall provide each residence with one (1) 90 gallon roll out container. If
additional carts are desired, they must be purchased from the Town.
15. Business establishments will be required to follow the same rules and regulations, which include placing all trash in plastic bags and cutting up boxes before placing in the bin.
16. Business pickup will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
17. No types of barrels or open top trash containers will names wed to be placed out
within the Town limits and will not be serviced
18. No trash bins will be allowed on Main Street in the downtown area. Each business will be required to have its bin in the side or back alley and off the sidewalk.
19. Shrubbery trimmings, leaves and grass clippings are NOT allowed in bins but may be
placed at the road for collection on Monday and Friday (inside city limits only). Do not
block sidewalk or create traffic hazards. Items placed out after 2:00 p.m. may NOT get
collected until the following scheduled day.
20. Tree limbs, tree trunks and other such debris shall NOT be longer than four (4) feet in
length, nor have a diameter more than 4 inches. These items may be placed at the road
for collection (inside city limits). If larger than listed sizes, it will be the property owner's
responsibility to remove such debris.
21. The property owner shall be responsible for removing tree limbs, tree trunks and
of licensed private contractor, who has been compensated for providing such service.
22. Bins that are damaged as a result of being emptied by the Town personnel
shall be repaired or replaced at the Town's expense. Collection shall be suspended at any location at which a bin is missing or at which a bin is damaged to such an extent as to interfere with normal collection methods.
23. Each bin has a serial number, which is recorded by residence address, so do NOT
trade carts with your neighbors or take it with you to a different address.
24. Household items such as washers, dryers, refrigerators, stoves, furniture or similar bulk
materials will be picked up every Wednesday (inside city limits only).
25. The Town can no longer collect construction debris or building materials. The property owner is responsible for disposal of these items.
These instructions and guidelines should be used by the residents of the Town of Whitmire concerning the use of the trash bin system and other services provided by the Public Works Department. The Town will make every effort to ensure the trash bin system operates smoothly. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Please do not hesitate to call the Public Works Department at 694-2356 if problems arise. We ask that everyone takes care of their bin to ensure costs are held down.
